Fanfiction bookmarks list

Just a place to store fanfiction that I've enjoyed, and/or might want to reread. I'll be adding to this over time.
Inclusion on this list does not mean that the entire story is canonical from my perspective, though usually if something is listed here, it's because there are parts that resonate with me. Feel free to ask if you're not sure.

Deserving by Lassarina
Author's summary: Only the Empire's Generals warrant the expense of magical healing. Leo questions why.
Pertinent quote: Magic was like controlled breathing: the basics, the capacity, were things she didn't even have to think about, but shaping it the way she wanted and timing the release of energy required concentration. She stopped talking while she shaped the thought of healing and laid it against his shoulder.
Picking Up Pieces by Stealth_Noodle
Author's summary: They both bring cities back to life.
Pertinent quote: The war ends, and neither the world nor Terra is ever torn in half.
The Moon from Any Window by deadcellredux
Author's summary: and what about the heart / counting alone, out loud-
Pertinent quote: "I'm Celes," Celes says, and when Terra looks at her she feels the shock of something stirring in her blood, something rippling under her skin. It's as if Terra's gaze is calling to her somehow, trying to awaken something within her-- almost as if Terra knows her.
(untitled drabble) by flecksofpoppy [warning: sexual suggestions]
Pertinent quote: Celes remembers a metal surface pressed against her back, the press of needles into her arm, sharp like stars. There inside agony, there is a series of tracks that intersect each other, trails that shoot like pain she can taste, that make her remember how she was formed, imploding.
Everything is a toy, an object. by notraffic [link currently down]
Author's summary: Insanity is not so easily defined and is not as linear a process as most people seem to think. How did Kefka become the man (monster?) we saw in game?
Pertinent quote: Kefka Palazzo rises to infamy the same way that oil rises to the surface of water and separates.
Tooth and Claw by lirillith
Author's summary: Terra decides to get to know her Esper half.
Pertinent quote: There have been others since then, with sources she remembers, but none of the scars are easily visible now, like she's a new person, or like there was a side of herself that no one could hurt.
These Hands by Thene
Author's summary: After Phunbaba; an awkward first kiss.
Pertinent quote: Where her touch had been, it left a tingling - infused Magitek rising to seek an Esper, or a friend's need for a friend, or a cold and sleeping beast yearning to get up and run - it was all of these things.
Four Times Terra and Celes Connected, and One Epiphany by Mina Lightstar
Author's summary: Celes knows who Terra Branford is.
Pertinent quote: Terra doesn’t know what love is, and Celes can’t help her. She doesn’t know, either.
Float by Mina Lightstar
Author's summary: When the world breaks, everything falls down -- except Terra.
Pertinent quote: Her core burns, and they think she is dead -- but she was born of the three elements and human determination. She is not done yet.
A Silent Aeon by Vrazdova
Author's summary: Terra's mother discovers that life is crueller the second time around.
Pertinent quote: The moment of death is like a second birth. Her eyes snap open and she draws in breath sharply, as a babe first slapped – and suddenly, she feels alive.
Transformation by lirillith
Author's summary: Terra, after the Battle of Narshe.
Pertinent quote: "No," she said, urgently. He shouldn't be there, but she realized, distantly, that he was worried.
Diamond Dust by lirillith
Author's summary: Celes understands Locke more easily when he's not trying to speak to her.
Pertinent quote: "It's not quite the same," she said, seating herself in one of the spindly, elegant chairs. "With the magicite, I feel a faint presence. A personality, almost. My own magic is a part of me. The difference between your own memories and a story someone else told you, perhaps."
A Light That Never Goes Out by Stealth_Noodle [warning: sexually explicit]
Author's summary: She is all the colors of fire, a spectrum ablaze.
Pertinent quote: Cavities open inside her and fill slowly with magic. What used to frighten her is now only her, changed but recognizable.
Season of Grace by lirillith
Author's summary: A midwinter visit to Nikeah, trying to celebrate an old holiday in the World of Ruin, provides a brief lull in the struggle against Kefka. And for several members of the party, it's a chance, welcome or not, to face the past or the future.
Pertinent quote: Celes had wondered before about her own future, and envied Terra her certainty, her place to return. All she'd ever done with her own life was try to throw it away.
Sword and Shield by Mollymawk
Author's summary: What happened after Locke freed Celes in South Figaro.
Pertinent quote: He'd heard the stories about the general with the golden hair blowing free in the wind like a banner. It seemed damned foolish to him, a liability, and that's why his own sandy, near-colorless hair was roughly cut short with a bandanna keeping it free of his eyes. But the Empire had a finely-tuned propaganda machine, and the thought of seeing this woman on the battlefield, her hair loose and her presence implacable, was an surprisingly intimidating one.
